Set the name of the user to retrieve information on.

Syntax

object.UserName [= username ]

Remarks

The UserName property is used to specify the name of the user to retrieve information about. The username is a string which may be in one of the following formats:

Format Example Description
user johndoe Return information about user on the remote system
@domain @somehost.com Return a list of users that are logged in on the system specified by domain. Note that many servers do not honor this request for security reasons.
user@domain johndoe@somehost.com Return information about user on the system specified by domain.

Note that there is no standard format for the data returned by a finger server. Some servers may return information such as the last time the user logged in, if the user has any unread mail, and current projects being worked on. The type of information is determined by the type of server and the level of security, with many secure servers not providing any service to systems outside of it's own domain.
